Blogging – frequent relevant content
The importance of having an ongoing dialogue in the form of a journal, regular articles, customer testimonials and community involvement cannot be overstated.
As discussed several times on this site, keeping your website updated regularly with new content helps you get your business up towards the top of online search engines, but it does more than that – it helps make your site interesting and keeps people wondering what’s new with you.
Blogging need not be tedious or difficult. It could be as simple as a couple of paragraphs giving people pointers on how to get the best results with a particular individual product.
For example: If you are running a nursery then posting content on how to get the best results with different types of plants and advising on how to handle pests and other challenges would be both relevant and helpful to your customers. They would want to go to your site regularly to see if you had anything to say about a particular question they may have, and of course, will think of you first when it comes to their gardening and landscaping needs.
Does your business sponsor a little league team or some other worthy cause in the community? Write about that! People love to see their names in print.
For example: Let’s say you own a grocery store and you sponsor the local boys’ softball team.
“As many of you know, The Country Grocery Store is a proud supporter of the Tiny Tigers little league softball team who seem to be on yet another winning streak. During last Saturdays’ game against ‘That Other Town’, little Jimmy Jump-around managed to pitch 2 shut outs and hit a grand slam home run. Way to go Jimmy!…”
In this example you have mentioned the name of your store, which has previously been ‘tagged’ to show up in search engines and connect you with ‘your town’, and the words ‘shopping’ and ‘groceries’. The next part lets people know that you actively support the community, and little Jimmy Jump-around (and his parents) are going to be sure to tell all their friends to go to your site – and no doubt see the great sale you’ve got on milk this week!
